Windows Hdl Image Install Program V1.7.6. For Ps2 DOWNLOAD (Mirror #1). Download and install WinHIIP. With the Sony HDD attached to your PC open WinHIIP. Let is scan it HDD's. You should see your PS2 HDD in the dropdown box after you press Select Drive. Winhiip is not really recommended for installing PS2 discs (it creates partitions with nonstandard names, has a list of games to which apply some default settings that are counterproductive for OPL/miniOPL) - hdldump or hdlgameinstaller are superior for everything except the scan and relink partitions feature (because they don't have it - but even Winhiip's implementation has its problems if.

This the first post in a long series (i hope) of posts about retro consoles. The purpose of these posts
is to get you up and running with simple projects that you can complete in under 30 minutes.
Playstation 2 is the most successfull console of all time, so you will probably have one! Unfortunately ps2’s
laser disc can often malfunction and you will not be able to play your games. If you have a PHAT ps2 you can
solve this problem by adding a harddisk or an sdcard to your system and run your entire collection from there!
This procedure is called softmodding, so let’s get started!

Winhiip 1.8

First of all for this tutorial you will need a Playstation 2 PHAT version. It does not need to have a modchip installed
since the method I am using does not depend on the PS2 reading burned discs. Also you will need a Playstation 2 network adaptor.

Hardware for Softmodding

You can use any HDD/SDCard you like, but if go way too high like 4TB it is possible that the programs we’ll use might not
work very well. I would suggest going around 1TB or 2TB if you have a big collection of games.
The drives listed below are just suggestions you don’t have to buy the specific drives/SDCards to complete the tutorial.

Option 1 HDD – SATA

Option 2 HDD – IDE

Option 3 SD card – SATA

Option 4 SD card – IDE

All the Amazon links above are affiliated, so by clicking on them and buying the products you support me at no extra cost on your part.

First of all let’s start by downloading all the necessary software from here.

Software

  • FHDB1.93
  • HDDRawCopy1.10
  • WinHIIP_V1.7.6
  • Your games in .iso format

1. Extract FHDB1.93.img using 7zip
2. Right click on HDDRawCopy1.10Setup.exe and then Run As Administrator
3. Install HDDRawCopy1.10
4. Connect the HDD/sdcard (that you have chosen to use in your PS2) and plug it in your PC.
If you’ve chosen to use an sdcard be sure to connect it to your PC using the apropriate adaptor
because in order for this tutorial to work your PC must be able to recognise the sdcard as hard disk.
5. Run HDD Raw Copy tool and double click on FILE.
6. Find and select the file FHDB1.93.img then press Continue.
7. Select the HDD that you want the image file to be installed and then press Continue.
8. At the final screen press START and wait for the process to finish
9. Close HDD Raw Copy.

With this procedure done our HDD is ready to be plugged in to the playstation but there will be no
games on it. Se get your original PS 2 games and convert them to .iso . The process is
very simple and you can find ton’s of tutorials on how to do it.

After you have your games ready unzip WinHIIP_V1.7.6 and then Run it As Administrator.
1. Press ‘Select Drive’ and then elect your HDD.
2. If you have a big HDD 500GB or more it advisable to got to Options
and select 48bit HDLoader
3. At the bottom left press ‘Add Images’ and then select all your games
4. Press Start. The process is pretty slow especially if choose a lot of games so be patient!
5. Eject your HDD and connect it to your PS2.
6. Open your PS2 and you will be presented with the Free HDBoot screen
7. Select Open PS2 Loader 0.9.2 from the menu
8. If everything went according to plan you will see all of your games at the screen.
9. Select a game and press the X button.
10. That’s it! you’ve made it!

As with everything in life this tutorial is also not perfect. If you have any comments or suggestions
that will make it better please take the time and write them bellow or send them at infocodeexcavator.com

My FMCB memory card came loaded with:
- FMCB (v 1.94)
- UlanchELF (v 4.42e_HDD)
- ESR GUI (Beta 9b)
- SMS - Simple Media System (v 2.9)

Why I Decided to Start This Project:
Alright all, earlier this year I acquired 3 flash carts (N8, M-ED, SD2SNES) and have been very happy with that purchase. Recent community projects like the PS1 PSIO & the Saturn Video CD exploit/ISO Loader have me excited about the preservation of these games while maintaining the ability to play on an actual system, especially when you consider failing disc drives. The convenience, space savings, and spending less on stacks of games in the long run is a big plus also!
With this in mind, I've finally decided to play game ISOs on the PS2 using OpenPS2Loader (OPL) via Free Mcboot (FMCB), directly from an internal HDD.
This is a something I've wanted to do for a few years. I'll be posting my progress and thoughts here on both the project itself and also my experience using the end product. I'm sure I'll have a few questions along the way and hopefully will be able to answer some of your questions as well.
CRT has a great guide to playing games off HDD. He was using Advanced HD Loader to rip games directly on the PS2 HDD from the console, and/or a crossover cable. Ziggy and exhum were using OPL via FMCB which is the route I'll be going as well. I have FMCB v1.94 running. Yes, I ordered it. I needed another memory card so I paid $3 more to avoid what seems like the biggest headache of this mod... actually getting FMCB onto a mem card.
Looking forward to FINALLY making this jump & sharing my experience!

Additional & miscellaneous project thoughts/details/goals:
Software/Apps I'll Be Using:
As of today, 8/4/16, I have only test booted FMCB to ensure it works and see what apps were pre-installed. See details above.
- WINHIIP (to transfer ISOs to HDD)
- FMCB (of course)
Also will try:
- Multiple Emulators (NES, Genesis, SNES, DOS, Sinclair, Neo Geo CD)
Goals:
- Tinker with FMCB on my exisiting PS2 Slim first to learn ins/outs of apps/GUI/file system while acquiring 'fat' and HDD setup.
Once I have the fat HDD hardware:
- Download PS2 ISOs
(I have 105 or so PS2 games. Assume I own physical copies of them all and for time sake I am DLing files versus ripping, to avoid derailing this thread)
- Transfer PS2 ISOs to HDD via IDE to USB adapter and WINHIIP software
- Play PS2 games directly off HDD via OPL
- Play PS2 import ISOs via HDD via OPL (NiGHTS!)
- Play .avi 720 x 480p movies via SMS
- Play MP3s via SMS
- Install & test multiple emulators
What I'm not looking to do:
- Play games via slim 1.1 USB ports. Not into the skipping cut scenes & possible lag
(I may test this for fun, but not a long term solution for me)
- Use PS2 disc drive to rip games to HDD. Will be transferring ISOs via PC to IDE HDD.
- Play PS2 backups/burned disc via ESR. Trying to go all digital here.
What I'm not doing now, but will tinker with eventually:
- Virtual Saves
- Movies and MP3s over network
- FMCB running off HDD vs Memory Card
Cool features on my 'maybe for kicks' list but not a must:
- Moving games to HDD via cross over cable
- Moving games to HDD over network
- Streaming games over network
Optional Add, Only Semi-Related:
- PS2 officially licensed wireless Logitech controller. If I'm really going in deep and going to be spending a lot more time on the system, going wireless.

My Original Project Questions:
Thanks for the help everyone. Those new to thread will see others referencing these as #1-6 in the early post.

1. Any recommendations or thoughts on emulators out there that will run via FMCB? Would be cool to have my PS2 double as an emulaton box where it makes sense.
2. Looks like playing PS1 games via FMCB cannot be done direct from HDD, need PSXlauncher.elf & game burned, correct?
3. Any reason to DL HD Loader when I have OPL?
4. For SMS can the media files be on the internal HDD or is it USB only? I realize I'm limited to 4GB files on Fat32 USB. I did find a quote saying 'harddrive support' but wasn't sure if it was referring to a USB drive.
5. FMCB running off HDD vs Memory Card, is this worth it? Pros and cons?
6. Any applications worth trying I did not mention?

______ 9/14/2016 UPDATE: HDD LOADING WORKING ______
See page 4 of thread for more details

I'd encourage you to read through the thread to see my ups and downs, ha! as well as info on emulators/retro ROMS, loading via USB (including retail .isos), and PS2 slim capabilities... but wanted to post proof of concept here and let everyone know I did get retail PS2 .iso files running off the internal HDD (including JPN imports) on a fat PS2 via OPL:
9/26/16: Multiple .iso files loaded & running:
1/8/2017: Below is the new stock OPL skin for 0.9.3. Pretty slick.
______ 1/8/2017 Project Updates:______
1. I did successfully rip a retail game within HD Loader & then load up within OPL.

Winhiip Not Recognizing Ps2 Hdd

The transfer typical rate was 941KB to 1000KB per second & it spiked up to 1454KB/s.
A 3GB DVD disc was ripped to HDD in 19 minutes.
For those of you familiar with the oXbox scene. This would be similar to using DVD2Xbox.
2. I upgraded to OPL/Open PS2 Loader version 0.9.3 (from 0.9.2).

Winhiip Windows 10

There's a default new skin that looks really slick out of the gate. Also, increased compatibility and features reportedly.
PS2 Home Thread with Download Link:
OPL Project - v0.9.3 Official Release (link working 1/8/2017)
3. I did successfully use ImgBurn to rip my retail DVD copies of Resident Evil Code Veronica X and Primal on my PC. I tested both after transferring to PS2 HDD. Cut scenes and gameplay ran flawless with OPL 0.9.3.
1/16/2017: HAPPY TO UPDATE THAT RUNNING PS1 DIGITAL GAME FILES within POPStarter APP via USB LOADING IS WORKING!!!
Quick Summary:
You have to create a POPS Folder with the 2 respective app files. You then need to use a desktop app called CUE2POPS to convert your .bin/.cue PS1 file into a .vcd file. Forget using the slick GUI version. This crashed on my Windows 8 machine. Go with the CLI/Command Prompt version.
The folder named 'Crash Bandicoot' you see is the VMC (virtual memory card) directory which will automatically be created by games that support it (after initial boot) for saving your game on the USB versus a mem card.
You have to rename the POPSTARTER.ELF as 'XX.Exact Game Name as VCD File.elf'
Run your correctly named .elf file! and.... wait for it! seriously... after about a 15 count you'll see this glorious logo.
Crash Bandicoot is running great. Including cut scenes.

Updated 3/29/17
PS1 POPs testing via USB:
